Joseph R. Drake served as vice-president of the Hupp Motor Car Company which he co-founded with his brother John Walter Drake in 1908. John Walter Drake served in the Navy during the Spanish American War and practiced law in Detroit, Michigan, from 1896-1908. He was president and later chairman of the Hupp Motor Car Company which he co-founded with his brother Joseph R. Drake in 1908. Drake was assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce from 1923-1927 and in 1929 headed the U.S. delegation to the Second Pan American Highway Congress in Rio de Janiero.
